Sheldon Swilling – COVID-19

My name is Sheldon Swilling and I’m currently serving a sentence at “Powhatan” State Farm Enterprise Unit, and I’m writing this letter with great concern. All D.O.C. facilities are doing what they can to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, but inmates are still getting infected, and some have even lost their lives. The thought of me losing my life before I complete my sentence is becoming more than a probability and more so a reality due to the spread of this disease.Though we are being quarantined there is still not enough testing, and testing saves lives. My family has also grieved to D.O.C. and was not satisfied that my health is being adequately protected. We have the right to be protected as well as everybody else. I have received the memo that selected inmates will be released because of the virus which I commend D.O.C. for doing but the criteria for eligibility is so tight I believe that it won’t make much of a difference to keep the inmate and staff population safe. So I beg of you to do more, take more precautions, do more testing, and be more open minded about the criteria for which selected inmates can be released so that my life and others can be saved. Thank you.
