In order to denounce and limit the positive systemic change that came from expanding earned sentence credits, the Attorney General wrote a misleading letter calling on legislators to again disqualify “mixed charges” through a budget amendment. The information distorts actual evidence to deny the well established public safety benefits and fiscal savings of ESCs.

Disqualifying “mixed charges” from partial eligibility further harms  many who have demonstrated rehabilitation and their families. It also circumvents the law approved and repeatedly maintained by our elected officials. It stands in the way of full implementation of one of Virginia’s most effective reforms.
